London Day 5: Wellington Hospital

After breakfast we visited a hospital and listened to a very good lecture on speech therapy services for families and patients. We the traveled by bus and tube to the University for a lecture with a Mental Health nurse on research and a lecture on the NHS system. The university then had a welcome for us at a local pub. For dinner we ate at ‘Jamie’s Italian’ and it was delicious, the brownie melted in your mouth. Stopped raining around 2 today which made for a pleasant walk home.

London Day 4: City University London

The morning included a welcome with the staff, lunch and lecture on the history of the NHS. They are so friendly and welcoming. After lecture they took us to a local pub. For dinner we ate at Busaba, Thai food which was delicious. The weather is persistant- rain and chilly.

London Day 3

Jade and I had no trouble sleeping. We are staying in an ‘Easy Hotel’ which is new concept for us. Just a bed and bathroom- that’s it. No table, chair, phone, one towel. Very clean, I think I like this concept. Our wifi unit was not ready at the airport so we are using the lobby to facetime home. Today we had breakfast at the neatest little cafe ‘Prets a Manger’, fresh made breakfast sandwiches, fruits and coffee. Afterward we headed for the tube, we each take turns maneuvering to our destination. This morning is overcast with a light drizzle. Next…. The Tower of London!

1000 boarded a tour boat on the Thames River to take us to the Tower of London. The bridge came up which was very cool to see. The Crown Jewels are simply amazing! They are my favorite sight so far! Afterward we walked to across the millennium bridge to view the Shakespeare Globe. We ate lunch at a Nando which was wonder and spicey. We then took the tube to Covent Garden.

Day 2 Bus Tour

From Trafalgar Square we took a double decker bus tour of the city. The weather was amazing- bright blue sky with white fluffy clouds, warm, no jacket required. So lucky! Seeing Big Ben and Westminster Abbey was my favorite. After the bus tour we stopped at the Sherlock Holmes Restaurant for fish & chips. For desert Jade and I ordered ‘warm hot chocolate pudding’ which was chocolate cake, fudge like icing and custard (like a vanilla pudding). We then headed to the hotel for check in and a good night’s sleep. What a great day to see London. Kellie

Day 2 Arrival

Made it across the pond with no problems! Sleep was decent. Woke as the sun was rising, which was beautiful to see. Had a nice breakfast of yogurt and a blueberry muffin. We met our guide Mary, with the green polka dot purse, at the terminal. She is very pleasant and organized. Took a 30 min bus ride to the hotel and caught and quick nap- we all took advantage of that! Arrived to the hotel, a little before check in and Mary was gracious and allowed us to use her room to freshen up. We walked a couple of blocks to a small supermarket for a sandwich (ham salad sandwich is not like mom’s ham salad- it is slices of ham with lettuce! Makes sense). We ate in a small park were locals were taking advantage of the bright summer weather to play in the park. Next we were off to learn the tube and a take a double decker bus tour. The weather is amazing!!

Detroit

6 pm Lay over. The airport is very similar to Atlanta. Nice, bright, open. Amazing water feature. Ate dinner at the Mediterranean Grill. Megan has joined our group and we will meet the others in London. Watching the sunset.

Port Columbus – Day 1

Checked in and waiting at gate. The weather is beautiful, bright blue skies and white fluffy clouds. Will be picturesque flying to Detroit for our connecting flight. We are feeling anxious, excited, nervous and but most of all relieved that we are traveling with Dr Meyer and other students! Kellie
